About Speakers

Dr. Tim Pan, Director of Microsoft Research Connections, Microsoft Research Lab – Asia (MSRA). He is responsible for the lab’s academic collaboration in the Asia-Pacific region. Heearned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis. He had 20 years of experience in the computer industry and co-founded twotechnology companies in smart card IC and large banking systems.

Dr. Vince Vardhanabhuti, Department of Diagnostic Radiology, The University of Hong Kong. His research interests include: Radiation Protection, Low Dose Computed Tomography, Cardiovascular Imaging, Liver Imaging, Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma, Image Analysis and Machine Learning, Diffusion imaging. In this event, he will sharehis research on quantitative medical image analysis using Machine Learning.

Professor Helen Meng, Department of System Engineering and Engineering Management, Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her research interests include: Big Data Decision Analytics, Multilingual Speech and Language Processing, Multibiometric Authentication, Multimedia Content Retrievaland Multimodal Human-Computer Interactions. In this event, she will join the paneldiscussion and share experience in grant application and leveraging cloud technologiesin research.

Dr. James Cheung, Department of Biomedical Engineering, The Polytechnic University of Hong Kong. He is currently lecturer of smart ageing technologies, wearable technologies and mentor ofservice learning subjects. He is also the chief technologies officer in Jockey Club Smart Ageing Hub. His research interests include 3D ultrasound imaging, Scoliosis assessment, vital sign detection, elderly support.In this event, he will join the panel discussion and share experience in grant applicationand leveraging cloud technologies in research technologies, wearables technologies andmachine learning.
